The Pedro de Osma Museum is proud to present the exposition "Ponerme mis zapatos de charol y empezar todo de nuevo" by the peruvian artist Luisa Gubbins. This exhibition will be open to the public from the 18th of January to the 19th of Febraury, from Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm. There is no entrance fee for the art gallery.
This is Ms. Gubbins first art solo showing; after a life altering accident the artist has finished the work she left undone channeling her second rebirth through the creation of characters that, like Frida Kahlo's works, show their lives through an imaginary universe. A world spun from personal experiences.
"Gubbins leitmotiv is the entire body but, above all else, the feet and shoes, this is due to the importance of falling and getting up again when life or destiny brings you down….Luisa also invents characters that register their findings on the shadows that inhabit each of us. She states that the Andean world plays a very vital role in her work, she considers this world her second birth place." Victor J. Krebs, curator of the exposition.
He also adds, "in some moments Gubbins paints images of things that are absent, empty, as if they surge from the abandonment of mind and memory. She has been through both in her process and that remind us of the fragility of life.
A vital influence in her work is Bernardo Simonet, a Spanish painter, with whom Luisa studied. This exposition is to his memory. One of the first things he taught her was the power that art has to transform and to recreate.
